Split has been recent years a favorite destination for many tourists from around the world, and sailors have nothing but praise for the city at the foot of hill Marjan. Especially when it comes to openness and hospitality of hosts.

Although the sailing caravan is still focused on the races of the World Cup, here in YC Labud are slowly heating up preparations for the European Championships in Split. Top sailors, all of them, eagrly await competition on the race area, so as their arrival in Split and Croatia. Visiting Split is looking forward also Mr Robert Deaves, journalist and photographer who follows all the events in the Finn class.
VASILIJ ŽBOGAR, current European runner up in class Finn
Vasilij Žbogar, experienced Slovenian sailor, owner of two Olympic medals in class Laser Standard, who last 5 years „rules" on the race field in class Finn, is really looking forward to his arrival in Split, at the European Championship in May.

The importance of this competition, the European Championships for the Finn class, is confirmed also by Hrvoje Akrap, Principal of Split Office for Sports who emphasizes:
- This year we have one of the biggest sport event in Split as far as sailing. After last year's Laser Europeans, now are coming the world's best Finn sailors. Sailing is still our indigenous sport, we all rely on the sea, and we have to admit that the sailing is a driver not only of tourism, but also the economy.

First Split Olympic Sailing Week in May, 1st to 5th, the race of the Olympic class that will be a kind of „dress rehearsal“ for the European Championships Finn class which is scheduled May, 9th to 17th.

The organization of this year prestigious competition has been entrusted to Croatian National Sailing Association and passed to us, YC Labud.
We have a long tradition in sailing, what is not unexpected of the club established 90 years ago, in 1924.
