Four hours afloat, but no racing on day two in Scarlino

It was never going to be the easiest of days to hold racing, and unsurprisingly the wind played tricks with the 69 boat Finn fleet at the European Championships in Scarlino, Italy for nearly four hours before the race officer called it a day with only the two races from Monday on the scoreboard.

Trujillo leads after great start to Europeans in Scarlino

It promised much and it certainly delivered. The first day of the 2012 Finn Junior and Senior European Championship in Scarlino Italy was characterised by a shifty 8-10 knot north-westerly, moderate temperatures and some great racing. Rafa Trujillo (ESP) leads the way afer placing fourth and first, with 2007 European Champion Eduard Skornyakov (RUS) in second and Florian Raudachl (AUT) in third. Vasilij Zbogar (SLO) won the first race by a nice margin while Trujillo won the second in a thrilling finish.

Windy practice race, Opening Ceremony done... ready to go with 69 entries confirmed

Marina di Scarlino- The European Finn Championship started today with a very windy pratice race held in 20-25 knots southeasterly. A fleet of 35 boats sailed the race while the other part of the fleet waited ashore still measuring and preparing for the first race day, starting tomorrow at 12am. Still SE wind is forecasted, but in the 7-10 knots range.

At 5:30pm the Opening Ceremony is scheduled in La Piazzetta of Marina di Scarlino. IFA President Balasz Hajdu will declare opened the 2012 Senior and Junior Finn Championship. Scarlino's Mayor Maurizio Bizzari, Club Nautico Scarlino general secretary Claudia Tosi and organizing committee member Gael Rossi will join him in the ceremony.

The final confirmed number of entries is 69, representing 26 countries.

Race 1 warning signal is scheduled tomorrow at 12am, race 2 to follow

 

Scarlino ready for European Championship

The Finn class is returning to Tuscany in Italy for its 2012 Senior and Junior European Championships. A favourite area because of its great climate and stunning scenery, the venue once again is the Marina di Scarlino, a modern large marina located half way between the town of Follonica and Punta Ala.

The host for the championship, sponsoreed by enegrgy company Sorgenia is the Club Nautico Scarlino, with the racing taking place just a short distance offshore in the Gulf of Follonica.

Coppa Italia Finn 10-11 March

The Coppa Italia Finn was sailed on March 10 and 11 in a moderate offshore breeze which blew up to 25 knots, with lots of gusts and shifts.

Definitely a good training for the Europeans which are ready to start with measurement procedures scheduled from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 March.

All the five scheduled races were sailed and overall victory went to the German Mathias Miller (2-1-1-2-4).

Second was Giorgio Poggi (ITA) and third the ukrainian Oleksy Borisov.
